CMUL defeated by Inishowen in the opening game of U15 Inter League 2014. Inishowen 2 CMUL 1
The CMUL U15's were narrowly beaten in Buncrana on Saturday 25th January in weather beaten McGinn Park in Buncrana, Co. Donegal. The picth passed an inspection before kick off but the weather deterioted as the game went on.
The game started with both teams playing cautiously because of the conditions and Inishowen were the first to come close when there midfielder struck the crossbar with a powerful shot from about 25 yards. Both teams settled in to the game as the half wore on but neither goalkeepers were really tested, until Arron Reilly picked up a pass on the right wing and raced to the corner and sent in a great cross which was met perfectly by the CMUL number nine Tautvydas Semelevicius to nod home to give the CMUL the lead.
CMUL seemed to be getting used to the conditions better than the hosts after this and were playing the play around with ease and went in at half time 1-0 up.
The second half started after a shower of snow and sleet and the conditions were getting worse when ten minutes into the second haf CMUL conceded a free kick just outside the box and the Inishowen number six duly dispatched the free kick into the roof of the net with a shot that dipped just under the bar to beat the CMUL keeper Abraham Dixon. After scoring the equaliser the home team gained in confidence and created a number of half chances but the final strike came with CMUL after forcing a number of corners in succession and Inishowen counter attack from this saw ther centre forward race on to a long clearance down field and with the CMUL defence doing their best to stop him he finished a well taken goal which was to be the decisive blow.
On Sunday last (28th September) the Summer League Under 9 & U10 Cup and Shield finals took place in John Sherlock Park, Cootehill.
The games were played in beautiful conditions weather and pitch and in front of a large crowd. All finals were great tributes to the clubs involved and unfortunatley there had to be loosers. Each final was played in great spirit with the boys and girls giving 100% effort, with one of the finals being decided on penalties after normal and extra time.
The Winners on the Day were Ballyhaise and Ballyjamesduff Shield winners and the cup winners Cavan Shamrocks and Cootehill Harps, the standard of play and committment from all teams argues well for the future of the CMUL.
