After a hard fought 1- 0 win over Limerick Desmond today in Cootehill Cavan Monaghan will face Mayo SL in All Ireland Final.

Members of grassroots clubs from around the country visited the Conference, with a number of topics and areas discussed on the day including the planning and developing of facilities, increasing girls’ football in clubs and how growing community links can help a club thrive.  “The Club Development Guide was given to everyone in attendance today. It’s an invaluable resource for clubs around the country. The clubs will take so much away from today and will empower them in their efforts to improve their clubs going forward.”

The Cavan / Monaghan Underage League Appreciation Night

The Cavan / Monaghan Underage League held an Appreciation Night last Friday evening in the Errigal Hotel, Cootehill, Co.Cavan, where they celebrated what was an outstanding season for its Emerging Talent Program sides. With the Under 13 ETP squad currently Subway “Island of Ireland” and Plate Champions as well as recently adding the Galway Elite Cup and EuroTab Crown’s to their haul for the season. The Under 14 ETP squad finished 4th place overall in the prestigious Kenndey Cup competition held on the University of Limerick campus in June and the Under 12 squad gaining National recognition for their free-flowing style of football, it was an opportunity for the League Committee to recognise the tremendous achievements of these young, local soccer players. The event, which drew a significant attendance from both Cavan and Monaghan, was also use to honour individuals who had contributed to the CMUL in different ways. The Guest of Honour on the night and current Republic of Ireland Under 19 International Manager, Tom Mohan, presented awards to former CMUL ETP Players such as current Newcastle United Under 18 and Republic of Ireland Under 15 and 17’s defender, Oisin McEntee, current Shamrock Rovers Under 19’s and Republic of Ireland Schoolboys International, Adam O’Connor, current Ballnamallard FC from the Irish Football League and former Republic of Ireland Under 15’s International, Sean McEvoy, as well as current Monaghan United / Cavan Football Partnership Under 19’s player Callum Ross-Lynch, who recently had trials for the Under 19’s National side.

Tom Mohan spoke about all the fantastic work being done for soccer at local level before making a poignant presentation to Mrs.Irene McCaffrey, Wife of the late Sean McCaffrey, who was one of the founder members of the Cavan Monaghan Underage League.

The Chairperson of the CMUL, Francis Matthews, finished the event by presenting Tom Mohan with an award in recognition for all his contributions to Association Football in the Cavan / Monaghan area.
